Transmission Stuck In Gear Can't shift Help!

Hello everyone,

Hopefully someone can help me out on this one. I have done a ton of reading on this site and finally thought to post. So here is the problem, Went out driving tonight and after I had the problem of having the clutch pedal stay all the way down. Figured it was my master and slave clutch cylinders so I bought new ones replaced them and bled the lines it worked like a charm. Drove and shifted fine for the first little bit. Then took off rev'd to about 5500 rpm shifted to second then boom, couldn't clutch and pull it out to go to 3rd. Turned off the car then started it up again with it in nutral and my foot on the clutch. With my foot on the clutch went to put it into 1st no go, couldn't ingadge it (nor any gear for that matter) So I turned it off again. With it off i put it into first and then started it up with my foot on the clutch as I did this it started to take off (it was in first but the clutch pedel wasn't doing anything) So I checked under the hood and got my girlfiend to pump the clutch pedel to make sure that the slave was still pumping the arm and it was. The arm was also moving So drove it home in first gezz that was crazy fun but regardless what could be the problem??? Do I need a clutch or is it just stuck or what could be the problem any help would be great.

The clutch is still bouncy and good and my fluid level is great in the master cylinder still.

Oh ya and sorry it is a 1987 non turbo RX7

Thanks in advance.

Brandon

It sounds like the clutch is never fully disengaging.
how many miles on the clutch?
you might have a leak between the master and the slave cylinder
what did you use to bleed the lines?
did you read the fsm for the proper procedure?

have you checked the clutch pedal adjustment. lupin seems to be on the right track with your clutch not disengaging. check the fdm for all the proper clutch pedal free travle.

check your clutch fluid reservoir and refill it. same thing happened to me and I had a leak somewhere in my system which kept draining my fluid quickly.
EDIT: sorry didnt read the last part!

THere is no leak in the lines, I will check today on the adjustment but it seems to be moving the arm quite a bit. And its sorta weird that it worked for a 10 mile drive then all of a suddin this happened. I will let you know after i check the adjustments and clutch fluid.

Thanks again

adjustment of the arm?
the adjustment rotorhead_izzy is talking about is clutch pedal play.
It's usually about 1 inch but read the fsm.

if you got your hydraulics from a parts discount store, they usually are pretty bad and go out quickly. I usually stick with Mazda OEM because of that.

1. clutch may be gone depending on the milage and abuse you put on it
2. pressure plate may be gone depending on the milage and abuse you put on it
3. pressure plate and clutch may both be gone depending on the milage and abuse
4. leak in the resevoire either in the line behind the fire wall, in front of the fire wall, or at the clutch master cyclinder
5. Or the tranny just may not be good anymore depending on the milage and abuse
6. or maybe the throw out bearing...

Wow what fun

So thats one heck of a job. I pulled the tansmission and the bell housin crazy job to do when you have the car onlt a foot and a half of the ground on jack stands. Anyways figured out the problem it ended up being that the clutch plate was totally worn and what was left of it had shattered. Anyways need a new clutch. So on thet note can anyone recommed one or what I should replace it with where I can get it etc. Thanks again evryone for all your help on this.
