Transmission install problems

Whats up everyone? im having some trouble getting the tranny back in and i ran out of ideas of why. i took the tranny off because the throwout bearing needed replacing and i changed the pilot bearing. ive done a tranny install twice and it was insane how easy it went in but this time its a pain. ive switched pressure plates repositioned the pilot bearing a freind said could be the release bearing so i turned it around the opposite way it was on didnt work and switched it also with the bearing that came with the clutch kit and nothing works. if any one has any advice id it would be appriciated

does the tranny get close enough to try and get a bolt in and start working it on slowly?

If not have you also tried rotating the crank a bit to help the clutch disk spline up to the transmission input shaft? Did you remember to remove ALL of the old pilot bearing before installing the new one? (my used motor I just put into my car had TWO old bearings jammed into the shaft.... had to cut them out before the new one could go in)

Sorry if its not much help, but I know how frutrating it can be to be under a car and not get the damned thing to glide in place.

As you have done them before, I assume that you tilted the back end of the motor down by lifting the front?

yes it gets c;ose enough to start a bolt on the passenger side the one on the drive side bottom is to long to start yet. when i try to start the bolt the transmission just starts to want to go in on that side im tighting. i looked and it doesnt look like there was another pilot bearing in there. and i havent done that turbonut i was thinking about trying it but i kept just throwing the idea out the first two times we didnt have to do that. i lightweight think to it might not be going in because i just had the subframe down to maybe the engine moved pr somthing

Don't try to tighten any bolts until the bell housing is flush with the rear of the engine. If the input shaft isn't angled perfectly, and the splines on it aren't lined up, it will just go in part way. If you're sure the pilot bearing is ok, the best advice I can give is to try it over and over until it works. Last time around, I had to try about 10 times and that was with engine on a stand. Underneath a car it will just be harder. Transmissions never seem to cooperate.

make sure you loop a rope around the tail portion of it, and the other end loop it through the shifter hole and put a pole or a wooden stick through the loop. this keeps the back end up.

its a pain in the dick, but can be done. just gotta wiggle wiggle. what i found works is putting a bolt at the top of the engine, then that wayyou know its more square.

hopefully you have a friend to help. doesnt hurt if you have an extra car jack to keep the tranny up while you rest for a few mins
