Question Transmission Crossmember Install

Im almost done putting the car back together but for some reason the transmission mounts wont line up with the chassis. The bell housing bolts are in and the trans is lined up with the engine. but the holes are off by maybe a inch. Me and a friend tried to wiggle it in place but its no good. I unbolted the mount from the transmission at the end of the day, but never had a chance to try fitting it. Im i doing something wrong though? Im pretty sure that its the original tranny & mount but i dont know for sure cause i got the car in pieces.

Something my friend mentioned was maybe its the banzai racing poly mounts im using. But ive searched around and other people have them working just fine. its so pissing because this is basically the last part. all i have to do is wire and add fluids.

ya we tried to pry on it, but there wasnt much to pry up against. even when we did get it hooked on something, it seemed pretty solid in place.

Mine was a bit off also when I put in solid mounts. Try this. losent the mounts, because with solid mounts they dont flex and the rubber ones do to be able to get them into place. make sure the engine mounts arent tightened either. essentially use a jack/pry bar on the tranny and get them into place. The tranny mounts differe from S4 to S5 but not TII to NA within those years. Once you get it in place then re'tighten the mount and make sure everything is straight.

Well i have the lower crossmember completely removed w/ the upper piece and the mounts still connected to the tranny right now. I ran out of time so i'll try to muscle it in tomorrow. Before i took it off it wasnt far off at all though. deff not enough to consider removing the trans and lifting it back in lol that was a pain.

I kinda have a feeling that the poly mounts are the reason, the rubber ones i took off had a ton of flex so it would've been alot easier i think. Its just going to take more effort, i think it will be well worth it though.

The poly mounts will not cause an allignment issue. You most likely are using the incorrect crossmemeber. There are 4 different crossemembers, The TII and N/A are different for both S4 and S5. If you are trying to use a TII crossmember on and N/A trans the bolt holes to the car will not line up.

i managed to get the crossmember in after a couple hours of prying and bending...

now that i have it in, i actually tend to think the crossmember might be slightly bent. I dont know the condition of any of the parts, they were given to me at the same time as the car but nothing was connected.

1 thing that worries me though, 1 of the 4 bolts is not going in (i think maybe thread damage) i might have to re-tap the hole =.=

I had this same problem with my solid tranny mounts. I had to loosen the mounts completely, but I still had to fight with it to get it mounted up.
