Transmission bell housing questions

1.) Is the TII tranny bell housing the same legnth (measuring from where it mates to the engine to where it mates to the tranny) as the N/A bell housing?

2.) Are they interchangeable?

I know the TII bell housing is bigger around to accomodate the larger TII flywheel. I'm wondering if I put a TII bell housing on a N/A tranny, will I be able to use that N/A tranny with a TII motor. Just in case I can't find a complete TII tranny.

Thanks

I think I remember my TII transmission being taller than the N/A when I had them sitting side by side, but don't quote me on that.

You're welcome for the almost awesome, yet completely useless reply.

Bump.

N/A bell housing is 'non removeable'
as in, cannot be interchanged with the turbo transmission.

What you can do is swap an RX4 style bell housing onto a turbo box, as they are basically the same box. This would allow you to use the smaller N/A flywheel...

But since you seem to want to keep your n/a transmission for some god aweful reason, you could just swap flywheels on the motor to accomodate, just make sure it's the same series flywheel to keep the balance right.

If you're going to be running NOS through that N/A engine I see on your cardomain page you might want to just switch over to a TII tranny.

I cannot confirm if it's removable or not, but I'm sure it's the same "thickness".

2.) Are they interchangeable?
No, definitely not.
The big hint is that the starts are different.

well, thanks for telling me that the N/A housing can't be removed.

I have a turbo motor that I'm going to put in the car, but I only have N/A transmissions. A friend of mine said he has a TII tranny bell housing. I was going to put it on the N/A tranny to be able to use the TII flywheel and clutch that I have. My car originally had an auto tranny that I swapped to a manual, and I still have the starter, which I know will work on a TII. Living in the middle of ******* South Dakota, its hard to find parts for RX-7s. But, looks like I'll have to get someone to ship one too me and hope it is good shape. Last time I tried that, I got a tranny that only shifted into 1st and 2nd.
