Transmiission rebuild (Front Countershaft Bearing Size)
Transmiission rebuild (Front Countershaft Bearing Size)
So doing some research into rebuilding the transmission on my 87 GXL NA, I ran into a problem maybe someone here can help me solve. I was compiling a list of parts I would need to do this, and found that there are 2 sizes for the front countershaft bearing in the rebuild kits, looking at importdrivetrain.com. So is this kit something I need to buy when I finish tearing into the transmission or is there some other way to find out the size of my bearing, 15mm or 21.5mm, before starting so I can order all the parts?
This will be my first attempt at a transmission rebuild so any tips or warnings would also be welcome.

You're seriously better off not doing that. Get another NA transmission or a TII transmission. If this is your first manual transmission build, it won't be easy. I had to fabricate alot of tools to pull bearings and all kinds of stuff. I've rebuilt a number of manual transmissions before, and the Rx7 one is not that easy.
As for the big bearing/small bearing thing, I've never figured that out.

Thanks for the info, I've been debating it for the last few days while doing research and I think you are right. The trouble I am looking at may be more than I can handle at the moment. Thanks again AGreen.
