Trans/ shifting issues...any thoughts?

91 N/A Convertable

Ok,, It started out like this,
about a week ago, I noticed my clutch was mushy...almost to the floor. So sunday im driving with my wife, my shifting began to get harder, and harder (as in-- it wouldnt go into the choice selected gear). Finally i pushed in the clutch, and it went right to the floor,,,,No pressure at all. I managed to get the vehicle home. Come to find out my Clutch master cylinder was BONE empty...a little odd i thought. I must have a leak i noted. I filled it up with brake/tranny fluid, pumped the clutch for a while...WAH LAH! I need to get this looked at i said to my self.
Well,,
Tonight, Driving a Lot harder than usual i must add, It started doing it again. I thought,,,,check the fluid. I looked at the fluid and it was full ( Really muddy water like, but full) The clutch didnt really feel mushy, although i could not get it to go into gear from a stop. I had to turn off the car, put it in 1st, and then i could shift. I was able to shift, though it was really hard.
I finally got home, and i kind of noticed a burning smell. Almost like a bad rubber fire.
My clutch has never slipped, never shown signs of going bad, and once engaged,,it holds very well (Stock).
Im wondering what you think it is?
Slave cylinder?
Transmission?
I never had any symtems syncro's going...
Im stumped!
thanks for reading, and sorry it was so long

Did you actually bleed the clutch, or just pump the pedal with the master cylinder full? Take the time to bleed it out, see if that fixes it.

I didnt actually bleed it out. I just filled it back up, and pumped it to get some pressure back. I was going to take it to my shop, once i got off my 4 day duty. Once i did this , it seemed fine. I was really ruff on it tonight, and it started to act up again. Do you think ive got an air pocket or something? Why would it be ok, but now that ive been ruff on start acting up again?

Clutch fluid should be nearly clear.
The dark tint comes from wear material off the piston cup.

When the fluid gets dark like that, it's time to rebuild or replace the clutch master.

What the hell,,,I just went out to and started the vehicle. I pushed in the clutch and it went right into gear, (all of them). So you think its definatley the MS then?

Hmmm I'm having the same dark color on my MS as well but I bleed replaced both the MS with a new one, the slave with a new one, and put a steel braided flex line too. To only thing I haven't changed yet is the hard line. Could the be the culprit? Also from first the second gear it feels really mushy when switching gears. At times I have to jam it in
