Well you are certainly not going to drive around without that mount....

Well, what do ya think? The mounts are there for a reason, and a damn good one: it keeps the transmission on! I'm suprised you didn't experience any major vibration riding around without one! Get some new ones, they aren't very expensive, and will save your drivetrain!

i bought the car as a shell. so right now im just getting a list of things that need to get fixed before the engine even happens. i need input on how drastic this is because the previous owner said he just pulled the engine and trans and set a LS1 w/ a 6spd in there, lost intrest and never got it firing. so any ideas on how to get this fixed? or atleast somethin...

1, you need to find a mount to put back on...I would suggest new unless your fabrication skills are pretty good. Call a mazda dealer and see if they carry the part, you may need to find a parts fische and find the actual part number to ask for...if its even defined.

If not, go junkyard diving and see if you can come up with a clean one and torch/cut it out making sure you get the entire mount part out in one piece.

When you weld it back on you may want to at least mount up the trans with a jack on the bottem so you can pay attention to the bolt hole locations.

...

Frankly, this is a if you have to ask you may not be skilled enough to do it type of problem. Shells are cheap in comparison to risking your drivetrain and you.

If you can't do this right, then you need to find another shell.

well the problem is that i just bought this 88 shell. its basically the first 2ed gen 7 i've seen for sale locally. and i've been on the look out for one since i was 15 (just for kicks then). but now that i have the money i bought this one. only problem is that there's no other 7 to look at to compare at all within 75 miles of any direction in Madison Alabama. even in junkyards. i found this one 50 miles away and a parts car (from the previous owners cousin) same distance. so i have no resources to look at another car till i make a slab in the backyard to get the parts car here. (it has no wheels, and i have 1 set).

now that i know that its something major i have to reconsider using this shell or just getting it cut out of my parts car.

because as it stands right now i have several options:

go to Static X Motorsports (local shop, co-owner use to race rotary's in the 80's) and see if they can fab one.

see if my 87 parts car is good enough to drive and pull my 88's int. into the 87 and get the 87 running instead of the 88.

or just cut it out of my 87 and put onto my 88

or somehow find a 2ed gen someplace w/o an eng and trans, but with that bracket and cut it out.........

this sucks.... thanks though. this is my first project car and first rotary car, so there isnt much i can do myself. i guess my hopes of getting this car running by late summer or fall is out the window for sure now...
