trans intallation help

hey ive been trying to install my trans for 2 days now but i just gave up. i just cant get it on, but i think its lined up bad. anybody have some advice or experience to share. i bought a trans jack adapter but it doesnt fit and my jack alone wont reach unless i put a rotor on top but it gets very dangerous working alone.

A second person tilting the engine back on its mounts will make it a lot easier. Lining up the input shaft perfectly can be a pain with the engine outside the car, let alone when you're bench-pressing a transmission from behind/below. Don't force it, just keep at it until it slides on relatively easy.

The last time I put my tranny back in I had a bitch of a time too. My brother in law finally came out and pushed it on one corner and the damn thing slid right into place after all my muscling of it. I was pretty wtf about it. Took me several hours across a few days to finally get it on. My story doesn't help I know, other than let you know we've all been there. Finesse the thing on and you will be golden

yeah, it is a pain in the ***. i had to put mine back in while the car was on jack stands, and the motor was in the car. i used a jack to help keep the tranny up. it was pretty easy for me to get the tranny started on the going into the engine.i was able to bolt the bottom of the tranny on so it wouldnt fall off, keeping the back held up by the jack. i ran into trouble when the engine tilted forward, so the bolts wouldn't reach. all i did with that was i bought longer bolts, and just ratched the top of the tranny until it mated with the engine.i bolted the other side, took out the long bolt, and put in the right size bolt. it worked out pretty good once i figured out what the hell i had to do. then i just put the transmission mount back on, hooked up the driveshaft, and that was it.

Scissor jack with a block of wood pushing up on the front hub of the engine. This way you get the clearance you need on the shifter extension housing to put the tranny in place. Once you hit the hook on the top right then you are good to go

I did this in less then an hour with my cousin for the first time, he had experience but what we did is wrap a rope around where the shifter is on the transmission. put the rope through the shifter hole so i can pull up the back end of the transmission. after pulling it up my cousin sneaked 2 jacks under the tranny. basically you try to slide it in untill your able to get the bottom 2 bolts in. from there it just get easy trying to adjust how your gonna slide in the tranny. you usually just have to find the correct way that the transmission tilts perpendicular to the motor.

OH and whatever you do DO NOT force any bolts or the tranny in. You dont want to cross thread or damage anything in there, just have patience and be observant.

have a second set of hands under the car for help. once the trans is lined up and if the input shaft does not slide into the clutch disc, you have have to turn the output shaft on the tailshaft of the trans a tiny bit to get the splines lined up. a slight wiggling up and down motion works well too. once you get the trans lined up and sliding in, toss one of the lower bolts in to hold it. make sure its only finger tight. you can do this with a couple of bolts and slowly tighten the bolts and doing so will seat the trans.

+1. Unless of course you want to get good replacing transmissions.

If the rad shroud is still there.wedge a block of 4x 4 in ther to allow the engine to tilt DOWN on the ***.(so the engine looks like it will fly out of the engine bay)you may have to Undo the motor mount bolts a bit though to acheive this.
I put is a Trans By myself..n/a and TII using this method,I have three dead vertebrae.
I lodged the trans onto the top of my knees and then slid the Trans right in,like butter.
it always helps if you leave in the One TOP bolt that requires just the nut,It acts like a Guide.
Use a Pressure plate/clutch alignmnet tool,be aware of the position of the input shaft so it can slide into the PP and then into the Pilot bearing.on the eccentric shaft..works good.
