IN trans or clutch

i have a 87 13b na and i have a whine in first and second gear i went to chicago and it satrted in third gear and coming home it started lightly in fifth gear fourth still is silent i can hear a whine when the clutch is engaged and when i press the pedal down the noise stops i was thinking a clutch prob but a local high priced transmission place said it was the output shaft bearing i really need help please

Did you search? I can almost guarantee this has come up before. I think that shop may be right, too. It could be your pilot bearing or some other bearing around the area.

Welcome to the forum.

Your symtoms point to the countershaft bearings or the input gear.
Those parts are loaded in all but 4th gear.

First, get a fresh change of synthetic gear lube in the tranny.
That might save it.

hey i live about an hour away from indy. i was wondering if u knew anybody up there who werks on rotary engines. i cant find anybody at all. anyways i have an extra transmission out of an 88 gxl if u cant get urs figured out. jus make me an offer or sumthing. id greatly appreciate it if u did kno sumbody who werks on em tho. def would like to get mine goin this summer.

my tranny whines in every gear...
makes that bitch sound like a racecar

Im thinking mine might be the throw-out bearing...
but i might just replace everyhting listed above...

I cant find these in the FSM...
where are they?

m interested in the transmission but i have a 87 se is it compatable with my car what is wrong with your car . my uncle in kokomo owns a shop he has owned 3 rx7's
