Exclamation Tranny Swap Questions

So I have a 1987 Rx-7 N/A with 72,000 miles. The only problem is that it has an AUTOMATIC transmission. I would like to swap this out for a 5 Speed Manual Transmission. Another Rx-7 owner in my area offered to give me the whole set up (Tranny, clutch assembly, petals, etc) but its out of his 1989 N/A. I was wondering if its even possible, let alone logical to swap my auto for that 5 speed, and if there's any special work thats going to be required to make it work and look nice. All input is appreciated!

im doing the swap right now. and if you have the time its realy not to bad. theres a right up in the arcives about this. and you should take the 89 5- speed trans. because its a little easyer to swap then a s4 manual because the mounting brackets will swap right over from the auto to the manual. you will still have to make some little bracets but nothing to bad. its up to you but you may want to swap the rear end for the gearing. i opted to get a aftermarket flywheel insted of strugling with that giant nut thats torqed to 300 ft lb. and when its all over you will have the car you wanted.

ONly real difference between s4 and S5 trannies is the crossmember (which your going to have to fabricate an adapter anyways) the s5 case as ribs on it and the 5th gear is different. You wont regret swapping to manual, you'll actually be able to beat ford taurus' now. ^_^

haha alright, thanks guys. So mounting brackets and a crossmember adapter are the only things i'll actually have to fabricate...everything else should just fit right onto my car? What about the center console? Will the shifter come up in the same spot where my auto shifter thingy is?
