tranny stuck in gear im f@#$ed

ok here goes i have an 87 mazda rx7 5 speed se/ i ttok it to a mechanic to replace my tailshaft and all new bushings but he calls me up and tells me the shift control level is stuck and it wont move he said its stuck ain gear and he can force it to work but he dont want to **** up anything/ then after i start getting stressed out i ask him if theres anyway he can fix it then he proceeds to tell me i need a new trany/ now my question is. can i pop the clutch without the shift **** i mean if i start uit is there anyway to pop it into place or do i need to take it apart or do i need a new tranny. im towing it home from the shop today i had to purchase a car in the mean time a 92 honda civic hatch back but i need the 7 to run. please i need help with this matter thanks

If it wasn't like that before, he probably just knocked a neighboring shift rod forward or knocked one forward and misplaced the shifter. You will probably have to remove the housing and move the rods back into the neutral position. It's a pain but no damage should be done to the tranny.

If that is the problem I would try to get my money back and wouldn't return.

yeah when the old tailshaft was on it moved the/ now when he put the new one on its stuck/ god this sucks i was about to give up on her i mean the motor runs so good never smoked over 150k miles damn i hate to see her go ill take your advice and run with it. rthanks
