tranny question

hope someone might be able to answer this for me. my tranny chatters and kind of sounds grindy in 4th gear, only 4th. does this mean throwout bearing???

I would suspect the clutch or pilot bearing.
Maybe the 4th gear syncro's are getting old.
Have you changed to synthetic gear oil yet?

The T/O bearing is unloaded except when you step on the clutch.
