Tranny Problem...Please Read

Ok, bad night. I was feeling blue, so I headed out to the country for some high speed driving. All is well as I do 8k shifts, until my clutch got a little hot, and started to slip, no biggie. So I stop for a coke, and let her cool off for a few. Then I get back in, and head back home, shifting around 5k, like normal. I then pull up next to an Acura CL, and we go for it. I am dead even, starting to pull away, and I shift into 2nd. I grind, bad. I seriously thought I lost second gear. I gave it normal clutch, and I can't figure it out, unless it has somethin to do w/ my clutch bein so hot. Any ideas? 2nd gear seems to be fine, my car just ground out, and shuddered REAL bad. I can still shift/drive in all gears.

Oh yeah, I still won!!!

I think that you mis-timed your clutching and shifting, I have done this often. You actually jump the gun and release the clutch before you actually have the tranny ALL the way in gear. I see this as the problem mainly because you stated that you can still bang through all the gears.

Usually this is referred to as Speed or Power shifting, basically you take the car up to redline and slam it into gear, not good for the tranny or clutch at all.

I just think your shift timing was off.

Yea I had that problem for a while, and I was SURE it was my tranny!! but I finally gave up and agreed with my friend who just said I was shifting like JUNK.. Just make sure your locked into gear before dropping the clutch, The extra milisecond it takes is worth not looking like a dumb-@$$ and mis-shifting during a race... That's the worst.. Unless you still win WOOT!

Then it just adds to the race story...

I also missed my shift into 3rd. I actually hit 5th for a second. But like I said, I still won!! Man, that CL sounded pretty mean, and he was shifting damn near me. Pretty high redline on the sucker...
