Angry Tranny issues

Since the wife killed my first tranny 2 years ago from trying to teach her to drive stick shift (bad idea) I had to put a used one in. I got it from our local RX7 mechanic for a mere $550 Anywho, since the day I put it in, it whines, Almost as much as the old lady who happened to be the reason it had to be put in, I digress. It did it in every gear but 4th and only did it when I was accellerating, which is pretty much all the time. I'm having all kinds of probs with my clutch and I'm starting to believe, my pilot bearing. SO "F" it. I've been looking for a t2 parts car for the swap, so I decided to start it. My friend has a T2 parts car that blew the motor a few years ago and the guy put a NA motor in it. So my friend isn't sure it's a t2 tranny. It has a an upgraded clutch I've been in it and know that the tranny is fine. He gave me a great price on flywheel to tranny. So I'm gonna do it whether or not it's t2 or not, but is there any way I can tell with it sitting on the floor? And will I run into any probs doing this if it is t2? And The rear diff IS t2, just how different is the gearing? It's an '86 and mine's an '88.
