tranny fluid how much is enough

ok redid the gaKet thing and put some hight temp gaket selent on there too sence the last time it leaked like hell

my question is sence ther is still fluid in the system like torque converter and radiatro and so on, ones i change the filter in thet fluid, how much will be needed to fill the thing back up. so far iused two quarts of redline plus half quart of synthetic trick shift B&M and a lttle of the lucas tranny fluid . all id say at the most 3 quarts. i drove a bit went through a ll the gears and let the car get hot and chekced it. but the red line is so darn light colored i cant tell it is to much in there or to little. i can see there is fluid up to the L and then there is a very dark solid red on the very tip.

any input on this ?

i know when you complete drain the system including hte torque converter it takes about 7.5 quarets how about just adding the filter and new fluid?

no dripping up to this point , and gunned it for a sec and it chirped the tires so i know it running deff better.

yes i know that like mentioned above, but that when fully drained. and the only way to do that is when you flush the system which is not doen when you just change the filter and drop the pan.

so just dropping the pan and filter and refilling how much should i put in ? i added like 2-3 quarts perhaps a little more
like mentioned above , i can really go of the dip stick cause its clear fluid.

i dont have an automatic.

not that it helps, but im replying instead of reading and moving on to the next thread... should i look in my haynes repair manual -- you know, the one you SHOULD already have?

ok, i see your delema, after re-reading a lot. You should proof read your posts.

the fluid is clear, so the dip stick is hard to read... ok, take a flash light or any light sorce and shine it perpendicular to your view of the dip stick.

When i change my oil in my car, the oil is damn near clear... so i have to use the sun to get a reading.

hope that works for you

tried the holse light thing, i see fluid up to the F so im going to assume that its full. im just use to seeing a big difference in thickness like in oil where you can clearly see where it stops. sure hope its full cause i dont want to ruin it .

thanks for everyones help.

if i decide to take some fluid out can i use a hose like aquarium hose put it down the filler tube witht car offand apply sucktion to is to drain a bit of fluid if i feel its to much in there ? instead of having to drop the pan agian and having to purchase all new fluid and gasket etc.

^^ i guess you could do that. the hose would have to be skinney to get down there... and dont use your mouth as the suction device!
