Tranny->Engine Bolts

Argh this is holding me back from doing anything =(

Anyone have pictures or a description of ALL the transmission->engine bolts?

I had a case of STUPIDITY when I was pulling the engine and didn't bag all the bolts, so they're a mess and I can't figure out which ones go where... or if I have them all.

The starter ads confusion... I think there's a bolt that goes under the starter and needs the starter of to get to, and I'm almost sure the starter has two long bolts and nuts... which means it doesn't thread into the engine right?

Anyone happen to have pics of these or how many of them there are and their size?

lol I did the same thing. I had to goto the mazda dealer and buy new bolts. Theres a diagram in a thread showing whcih bolt hole is the son of hte fucktard who thought there needed to be a bolt with a different pitchthread than all the rest.
.

By the way, I learned my valuable lesson when I made that exact stupid mistake. I bought a box of 200 sadwich baggies which I keep in the toolchest for whenever I removed ANYTHING frmo the car. Losing nuts/bolts SUCKS.

By the way, check the bolt thread pitch article in the archive, i think there is some good info there you might be looking for.

The starter has one very long outboard bolt. The inboard lower bolt is of a different pitch and much, much shorter. I'd try to find that one. It should be the only one that will screw in with finger pressure. The others will only go a half thread or so into that same hole. There's a online fsm that shows how things go and also a online fische manual showing all the part numbers and pictures to go with it. That one is at http://www.mazdaformance.com/rx7parts.htm

The others you should be able to figure out. They are shoulder bolts I believe. Just measure the distance from the transmission face to down in the engine bores and you should come close to figuring it out.

Awesome thanks everyone.

To make things 10x harder that bolt you were all talking about had dirt in the block threads OR paint from when I painted the irons... so yeah, that was FUN!

If anyone is wondering it's a 10mm x 1.5 thread and the bolt is 1.5" long (found the length in that archive post btw, made me assured it was the right bolt before I started tapping the thread... it didn't give much resistance to the tap with TriFlow on it though. =)

^^ Thanks Gary, But let me ask you this (or anybody) Would that strange pitch bolt go into the holes in other places??? Easily?? I had to put that bolt into the wrong spot Because...I did put all the parts in a bag and I had all the tranny bolts in one bag.

I think it's a close match to some other places on the engine->tranny... close enough that it would feel like you were threading through dirt, not metal, trying to put it in.

I forget where else it fits but I'm pretty sure there are some places.

Well I found one that goes back in that hole and got the Starter back on. Waiting on some parts (should be here tomorrow) and I am ready to start it up.
