TPS Failure Signs?

I am having a bit of a bucking / hesitation problem between 3200-4000 rpm. I know it could be the dreaded 3800 rpm (3500 rpm, I have an RTEK1.7)secondaries and the grounding issue but wondering if I can localize the problem first. Just as a note this was heppening before I went to the RTEK. Here are the symptoms:
- Bucks in spots (not continuiously) when driving in any gear in the 3200 - 4000 rpm range.
- Bucks when accellerating slowly through this range but if I give it gas so that it never settles in this range it shows no signs of this problem.
- After the 4000 rpm the car drives and accellerates hard.

I am wondering if this problem points to a TPS failure becasue the range is wide and it seems to only happen if you stay in this range at certain points. When a TPS fails does it tend to happen for a wide rpm range? Does it happen every time you drive the car or is it intermittent? I have heard of people replacing the TPS frequently and am wondering if this is my issue.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hmm... I read through your post. Looks like you can add me to the list for this problem. I just got my Rtek about 1 month ago and have only just got my car up and going in the last few weeks and driven it about 5 times. I see this problem drives you nuts...me too. Was getting worried it was a lean spot and I was gonna blow the engine.
Unfortunately I do not have a wideband yet (some day soon but not this year).

just pull out a digital mulitmeter and test it via the procedure in the fsm ...

i thought i had a bad TPS .. tested it .. and technically it was within spec, but it still didnt feel right ... a few months later i ended up buying another TB that had a TPS on it ..

swapped that TPS on ... set it correctly using the FSM procedure, and BAM .. no more backfires, hesitations, ... none of that stuff ...

i dont throw flames and pop under deceleration in gear anymore either, which im very thankful for, because cops dont like that kinda thing ... and ihate unwanted attention to the car....

Thanks Fitness....I am going to try and swap out the TPS int he next week or two and will let you know how it goes. Seems like a few others are having a similar problem with this on their Rtek1.7 setup.
