TPS down to a Science?
Ok guys, it is gonna be TPS weekend. Anyway, I am just needing some clerification once a friggin gain. Ok. So I am gonna warm up the car, turn it off, unplug my tps, shove the red side of the ohm meter down there and where should I ground the black side? Body? Than I am gonna play with the little screw that sits sideways and has a little plastic cover. NOT the one on top of the throttle body with the rubber cover, correct? Oh and why does my car when I go to start it, it starts than dies imediatally? I can do this twice and it will start on the third try and do it's stuff. Or on the first one I can blip the gas and it will stay running fine? Intake leak? Thanks guys for the clerification. Oops I run an 89 GXL guys btw.

Yeah, I have read a couple of posts where people say they have the same problem but there is no fix. Well no one mentioned one. Maybe it is simple as a stupid vacum leak. I might as well check this weekend. I don't want to be blow carb cleaner around my friggin engine bay cause it is already to damn dirty. So what do you guys use for alternative vacum checks and cleaning your engine bay?

Wait, your ears for checking? Is there a distinctive hiss that I will hear? And moreover, do I have the TPS setting thing right guys? Could the starting problem be due to shittacular plug and bat wires cause mine are?
Well Gefunk, I have an 89GXL that does the same thing right after it got out of the mechanics shop for a fuel leak and oil leak. He had to take off the whole intake essembly so Im guessing its something to do with that.
He says just drive it awile it will go away...yeah right

Bumpity Bump, come one guys, I am doing th TPS thing today and I really need to know if I have everything strait. Thanks a lot. Oh and your Mech man, he might be right, these cars love to be driven and hate to sit. Mine is that way. I havn't driven it very much cause of my lack of an exaust but when I take it out for those 3 am runs, and I start it the next day, it runs fine.
You use the two pins to most right when looking at the plug right in front of you. Make sure you rex is warmed up really good before messing with the TPS. You can check out RETeds' site for a good writeup:
http://fc3s-pro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TPS/tps.html
It's suited for 86-88s, but is essentially the same process. Hope this helped.

Ok guys, I have to fix a code 12 which means the High position of my throttle. I hook a clamp tester than can hook up two probes, one red one black. Now on the site it told me to put the red one in the green slot and the black in the black slot. For some reason it doesn't give me a stupid reading at all and it is telling me that it is off. What am I doing wrong? Should I get another ohm meter or am I doing something ignorant?
Could you clarify on "doesn't give me a stupid reading at all and it is telling me that it is off"? Only thing I could think of is the probes aren't touching the pins. You might have to jam the probes in there harder and do some manuevering, or if you got a helper just have them hold the probes to the pins in front of the connector for you while you do the testing/adjusting.
