topout problem!!

ok well once i hit 5th gear and 4k rpm the car tops out, and its only going like 105-110 each time never goes higher then that. in each gear once i get to a certain speed the rpms will rise about 2k but the speedo sits steady with no increase. car is a 89 turbo2 and i know its capabilities are so much higher then the cars showing. car drives like a dream, very smooth(but still shitty on gas of course) anyhow any help would help out tons. thx everyone!
Tony

replace your fuel filter then check your injectors. and try to top out only in places it's legal (track). and I'm not sure how to check the a/f ratio yet, but you might look into that, too.

Could be your clutch is just slipping at that load.

have you gotten a fuel cut defencer on the car yet? that could be why the car wont go to a higher speed than you indicated racing beat has a good one or even greddy or hks ? any mods yet or stock please specify.

I was thinking clutch too. Does your clutch grab firmly?....can you smoke the tires?

Clogged cats won't let you get to 70 mph, let alone 105. The guy said his rpms climb 2k at that point but no increase in vehicle speed. There's no rubber band between engine and rear wheels, so my bet is clutch slippage. There is likely a bit of aerodynamic load on the body @ 110 mph.

the car is a 1989 rx7 turbo2 fc3s. only mods are, KOYO radiator. car has stock exaust with 3 cats so it could be smogged when i purchased it. i brang car to muffler shop they said all cats r fryed that with how rich the car is running even putting a new cat the cat wouldnt last but a week. could having 3 fryed cats cause this much of a power mess up? mutaku said he got the car to over 140 before so im not sure....the clutch was just replaced by mutaku so i dont THINK it could be that. ill write all ur suggestions down and when i go see ben(karack) tommorow ill mention it all to him. id put the corksport exaust i have on but i really needa smog it so i can get all the legal stuff tooken care of first. im sure once i put that corksport on ill get pulled over and if i dont have it smogged first O_O im sure trouble will stir up. there are 10 cops for everyone 1 mexican where i live....its freakennnn gayyyyyyy.

If the clutch was just replaced why are you going 100+ miles per hour? I'm assuming it's broken in, right?

the clutch was done around 3k miles ago i beleive mutaku had said and ive only went over 100 once when i was checking performance of the car, since i had just purchased it and felt much more comfy in this one then my old one. and the way gas prices are....trust me i drive super slow considering its my dd and its 55 dollars to fill the tank :/ and i dont think its the clutch cause its everytime i get to 60 it sits at 60 for a while then 80 also then by time i hit 5th its barely getting to 100.... which is WAY not right. im starting to think its the exaust. cause if all 3 cats r clogged and melted....its prob fucken with the boost alot and preventing massive amounts of power :/ but ya liek i said any ideas ill write down and have karack check out tommroow!!! thx everyone
