Question Too much oil consumption?

Hey

I've had my 88 GXL for like 2 and a half weeks now and I just noticed that like every 250-300 miles it needs another quart of oil. I'm using Quaker State 10w30 and I don't always drive the car too hard. There was an oil leak when I bought it, right near the oil cooler, found out the washers were all rotted away so got new ones, closed it up, no leaks. Is that normal for a rotary or could something else be wrong?

Thanks

That's a little extreme. Should be more like 1 quart every 2k miles. Time to start investigating your oil system.

Um, yeah. That's a bit much...

I'd recheck your oil connections for OTHER leaks not known by the previous owner.

Unhappy

Redneck, that definitely was the only leak, every day when I come out to go to work in the morning I check around the underside of the car to find nothing leaking

Right after I bought the car I took it to my uncle who's a mechanic . We checked everything out, took care of little stupid things, raised the car up on the lift, found the source of the leak and fixed that. And we checked for more leaks while the car was on the lift too...

Could it possibly be because of the cold or anything?

I have no idea where I would even start at this point

only when I start it up for like 2 or 3 seconds after that, once its warm its totally clear

The only other thing I remembered is that I smell burning oil when I merge onto the expressway, (cuz thats my favorite time to floor it ) but again that lasts for a little while and goes away once I'm cruising

Besides highway merges I dont floor it that often, I generally take it easy
