Too much coolant pressure leaking through irons?
Since i had a stumper of a question before, im going to try to repost a diff question. Why is my t2 coolant pressure building up in seconds. At first i thought it was just the radiator cap. then when i replaced it, it retained all the pressure within the motor, and there fore making it leak through between the irons and rotor housings. soemthing obviousely is wrong, considering it would take ALOT of pressure to do this. and i mean alot. also wouldnt my radiator caps BLOW off at 13psi of pressure?
Im thinking its not tourqed correctly, or its just a pinched seal realeasing pressure into the coolant system. what do u guys think?

Worn/failed/failing coolant seals? No experience with the issue but that is what I have read is the case with the symptoms you describe. The engine will pressurize the cooling system or depending on the operating condition coolant will leak into the combustin chamber. If you bought an new cap (assuming you bought the right one) i belive 13 psi is the correct relief pressure.

I'm going to have to go with a blown coolant seal on this one. You're correct that the relief pressure is 13PSI (at least on a S4 NA).. but any pressure build up so great that it would come out though the iron/housings would likely blow other things up, first, like your rad cap, or your hoses going into the block. It sounds more likely to have a failing water seal or two before that.

It's definately possible... that's what happened to my first rebuild Lasted about 3000 miles or so, and it started pressurizing the coolant system nearly instantly.. In my case, one of the vioton (sp?) teflon o-rings got pinched a tad when i put the engine together, and it must have taken that long to rip or come loose or whatever. I put some new seals in it, and it's been good for the past 4000ish miles, and 7 autocrosses
For the rebuild I went with teflon rings again, because I could get them quicker, and the 7 was my only car at the moment. If I were to do it again, I'd use Mazda rings, and not mess with the slightly undersized vioton ones.

I woudln't trade your car.. if you rebuilt the engine, everything will still be good except your o-rings.. get a set of those in, and take a weekend to teardown/rebuild.. it won't be that bad

my bad, its not the seals, its the housings, there pre 85 and have the coolant groove on them as well as my irons so im not getting a proper seal. im filling them in sometime this week. my bad.
