Read the thread. Over 3 litres.

And since we're getting these sand-size bits of carbon even after all this time, maybe it *was* carbon lock and not hydrolock.

It locked up on us this afternoon, btw. I used my ratcheting breaker bar to ease the main pulley back and then forward again. She started turning again, w/o the dreaded crack/ting.

just keep working on it, if you do it many times the engine will slowly get clean. it might take another 10 times of trying but if you got it running just a little bit then it should almost be there!

Thanx for the encouragement.

Now that we know that it:

a) runs

and

b) seems to be doing everything else normally

we know that we just have to undo my ATF flub. We were just hoping to find an alternative/shortcut to pulling the intake manifolds (part of the original engine xfer was reassembling the top of the engine - going through that again because of me is a major groaner...)

Progress!

We finally pulled the manifolds tonight (didn't get the car into a garage until last night.)

There was almost no trace of ATF in the manifolds. What we did find:

- the BAC *did* have an ATF bath (the inside of it did) at some point. There wasn't any ATF in it when we pulled it tonight. Should we consider the BAC pooched and replace it, or maybe just blast the inside with carb cleaner or something similar to clean it out?

- some sort of valve/solenoid/thingy had ATF in it (don't have the FSM here to ID it.) This device has an electrical plug coming out of it and it is mounted to the two-pronged mount that supports the dynamic chamber (beneath and behind the BAC.) The device itself is a round casting with a plastic tube coming off of it, which splits with one line coming around into the dynamic chamber and the other going up to the air line that goes across the top of the manifold and around and into the air duct from the airbox.

There was ATF sitting in the line that goes up and then over the manifold. We drained it.

What is this device and should we replace it? I'm guessing that we should.

Thanx again!
