help for simple speaker and sound system replacement in my rex

hi everybody
i have an 88 rx7 GXL and it still has all the original sound stuff in it and i'm looking to replace it.
now before i continue i will say that i have searched all over this forum for that kind of stuff but a lot of the stuff seems to be involving serious complicated mods and stuff that i don't want to deal with. i am a poor college student and a not car buff. all i want is to replace the old system before the speakers blow completely. (they are already getting pretty weak)
i just want feedback from others who have simply put in a new system and new speakers etc. for a good price but also get really good sound and are able to crank it and feel a good amount of bass. thanks in advance for any help and feedback
i love my 7!!!

Replacement of stock system...

I suggest replacing the Head unit with a decent Pioneer... Always have had good luck with them!!!
Don't forget the mounting kit...

Replace the front 3 1/2" with a low level Clarion Speaker... Decent sound for such small speakers!!!

Replace the rear speakers with 8" subs... Just enough bass to feel the music without bumping down the street... I replaced mine with Polk Audio...

It would also be helpful to get yourself a 200 watt amp to power this new system... I bought a Kenwood Exceleon... Decent power and sound for the price...

I bought all of my equipment from clearence sales @ car stereo shops, but check pawnshops as well... You can always wheel and deal with those guys...

i work at an audio shop...and i have to say that your best bet would be getting an aftermarket head unit (i personally like kenwood excelon) then replacing the stock speakers with an aftermarket set (kicker or kenwood excelon are the best ive heard so far for this application) and running them to a 4 channel amp....you'll get great clarity and bass response..... and you wont sound like a distorted bassy mess.....
