Question Too all my fellow rotary enthusiast's (I need ur Advice!)

Hey everybody, im currently in the need of some direction, i have the opportunity to purchase this 88 FC for $3000 ($1800 US) its done 80,000 miles and of course is turbo but what makes is interesting is its a GTR model which i believe the US or the UK dont get it has buckseats standard and has a white instrument cluster (pic below). The engine is in Mint condition.

Now the bad news is the car is an auto which has broken so i'll have the tow the thing around which doesnt concern me. Im not going to use this thread to ask how to do or how much of a mission a manual converstion is, i found that out reading past threads what i want is anyones option on what i should do pass up the car or go for the converstion, having in mind that a manual FC in this condtion is around $6000-$8000 US but wont be this model. Do u think is worth doing?

This proberly sounds like a stupid thread but lets just say all i need is a push to get **** moving. Remeber any option i wont find it a offensive.

Cheers for reading all

Hmm...turbo automatic with white gauges...they look after market as well as the steering wheel.

Never heard of a GTR model though. Considering the 80k on the clock and you haven't mentioned what kind of condition the body/interior is like... I would buy it. I woyuld leave roomin my budget for (like you said the manual conversion) and a possible engine rebuild. Plus I would try to talk him down a bit more. I think he's yanking your chain about the GTR bit.

Think you could get some more pics of the car?

Buy it. If the manuals are going for that much over there, you will be money ahead in the long run, especially if you do your own work. I am not sure about the ecu. It may be different than the one for the manual. Others more knowledgeable than I will probably chime in on that.

A good running TII here would be a bargain a 1800 US, but then we didn't get the autos.

He's in New Zealand, not the US.

Who cares what I think. Do you think its worth doing? That's tall that matters.

Is it worth the time/money to do the conversion yourself? If so, go for it.

If not, don't buy it.

If it were me, I would probably buy it. But, of course, I can weld on the standard tranny mounts to the frame and have enough parts laying around and enough experience to get the task done quickly and correctly.

GTR is just one of the Japanese-market trim levels (most FC's in NZ are imports). The GTR and GTX were the two most common models, with the GTX being the better of the two. Mechanically they're all they same. The white gauges and bucket seats are aftermarket, not factory.

I'd leave it as an automatic unless you plan on getting a pro shop to do the install....cuz later if you decide to sale it..people wanna see some receipts and wont trust a JY fix up. But do what makes you happy
