tmic or not

I'm thinking about upgrading the tmic to a little larger one, but im not sure if i need to. I'm only going to run 14 psi max/12 psi normal boost out of the knight sports s320 hybrid.
I don't race alot maybe once every couple months, I tend to sport drive more than anything. I like building cars more than racing people.

The reason i ask about a top mount is because i don't plan to run more than 14 psi and apparently the stock tmic is good to 12 psi. So i was thinking if I ran a little larger core it would handle the amount of forced air better. I know the fmic is a much better all around choice. but i just don't want to go putting holes in my engine bay when I don't need to. I also plan to run some sort of meth/water injection down the line. But if i have to go fmic i'll just wait till spring.

any suggestions would be great.(please put why)

You could get away with 14 PSI on the top mount as long as you keep the timing conservative. Aux injection would make it easily do-able.

There are larger top mounts that show up from time to time. You could even make one with a thicker core. The limitation is airflow and space on the top of the engine.

I'm running the rtek 1.7 think that pulls enough timming? If I remeber its 1 degree per psi over 9psi.

I found a tmic thats 260mmX70mmX235mm
and one thats 251mmX65mmX257mm
Tall X thick X wide

think those are big enough?(I don't know what the size of the factory tmic is.)

Yes I know of heat soaking but im not to concerned with low levels of psi, and i don't do any stop light racing. only heat soak im worried about is while im at speed thats what the aux injection is going to help with.

heat soak while driving should be minimal. Specially in the winter, all the air coming into the scoop is getting forced into the intercooler....the first 20-30 seconds of acceleration after a stop is when its the hottest...after that the air will start cooling the intercooler down.

HKS and ARC make after market Top mount ic's. They need a little bit of custom piping to matchup to the stock throttle body hat/elbow. They do offer better cooling than stock (ran 18psi through an arc unit).

Currently Fitting a 4 1/2 inch thick trust IC as a top mount, have to spacer the bonnet a little to fit it. (Don't ask why it's being topmounted, long story).

In reguards to heat soak, Some thermo tec heat shielding layed beneath the IC (make sure there is a gap between it and bottom of IC) will help reduce this.

If your running a street car or race car, and not looking for huge HP, a lager topmount would be perfectly fine. Just as said above, alittle head shielding, and a decent top mount, and youll be fine, maybe some sort of vent around the turbo area to get rid of the heat

well, honestly, id just wait till you can afford a fmic.... so wait till spring, and do it right id never trust a top mount inter-heater...ive seen those arc top mounts go for like $300 on ebay a few times, and for that money, you could build your own front mount w/ little fabrication skills and hand tools (power tools make it easier though)

I'm not going for high hp just wanted to know what my limits were while running a hybrid turbo. I don't want to go threw the hassle of a fmic just to run a few extra lbs of boost, I just wanted something a little quicker than stock that is still fun to drive around, and I wanted to stay within the limts of the components that I have.

I could do a fmic I have the skills but I don't think the time and hassle is needed. I don't race my car when its 90 degrees of hoter out, I don't race my car hardly at all. Just don't want to push the limits of stock componets. That is why I went with a hybrid turbo.

thanks
cameron

well if you wana stay with the stock you could use a water mist kit thats what im going to be running with my top mount and it should work fine.
