I could be really wrong ( and probably am so find out for sure ) but I think the biggest upfront is 225?

If you need bigger, get a wheel with a different offset, or get some spacers.

8 inches is ~203mm...So 205's should work.

Whats the stock tire size anyways?

( Been here this long and I still dont know )

Stock is 205/50/16 on 7"

You can fit up to 225/45/16 with no problems at all.

After that, you'll need to either change rims too, or buy spacers....

I have 225/50/16s on my car. I don't get any rubbing and I always have thought I could go a little wider, especially if I went with a lower profile.

Bzzt - stock TurboII tire size is 205/55/16, and the "plus" sized tire is 225/50/16.

Most 225's will fit in the front no problem on the stock rims. Some tires, like SP8000's that are fat as all get-out, can rub - I had some VERY minor rubbing problems that were solved with a file .

You can run up to an 8 inch rim up front, but the offset has to be just right for it to fit. Bigger than that and you need fender flares - if you go in too much, you hit the shock/spring, if you go out too much, you catch the fender lip.

If i got 17x8 w/225s on the front and i had to use spacers, would they stick out further than the back wheels (w/out spacers). I want to run all 4 wheels with the same width so i can rotate them and extend the life of the tire.

If you get the right size and offset rims, spacers aren't an issue - they'll fit front and back.

Mind, to get 17x8 in the right offset you're gonna pay - cheapie rice rims typically only come in 17x7's

so with the 90gtus/TII rims (16X7???) I was thinking about 225/50/16 in the front and 245/50/16 in the back. could i go with 235s in the front if i went with a 45 sidewall??

I am not very good with tire sizes and the way they fit on the rim. what is that miata site that has the calculator for tire sizes??

Justin

I don't think 245 will fit on a 7" rim and I doubt even 235 will. Not sure though.

I was recently looking at some wheels/tires someone had for sale. They were old 5-spoke Ronal/Gotti's, can't remember which. 16x7 with a 35 mm offset. The tires were Goodyear G-Force K-DA's 235/50/16. They fit with about 1/2" clearance between the tire and strut (KYB AGX) and with my springs (Eibach Pro Kit-3/4"drop) they were tight at the fender lip (unrolled). I drove around with one one the front to see if there was any rubbing. Didn't hear anything, couldn't find any rub marks, either. BUT, the tires had about 60% tread and I would still worry (alot) for my fender if I hit a bump, parking lot entryway, speedbump, etc., at anything more than 25mph. If I was turning at the same time, I could just about guarantee fender damage.

Sure looked nice, tho.
