Tire Time!
My tires are basically bald right now...
I will be getting some new ones soon. I have the stock rims (15x6). the stock rating is 205/60VR15. can you fit 215's on there w/o modifications?
What brand is the best, from your expirience?
I live in MN where summers are 100+ and winter is -20 and lower... so i need a good all weather set.
Any recommendations??

I live in MI so i am in the same boat w/snow. I use BF Goodrich radial t/a's. I have them on my full size GMC also. They worked pretty good in the white stuff. For some reason it got really sideways sometimes though
. Anyway I also auto x ed with them this summer and they weren't TOO bad. I am getting DOT slicks for next year. hope it helps

hehe, this is going to be long...
for the forthcoming winter, i bought a set of pirelli 160 s plus. 205/60r15 on all four. going into the tire shop, i had my heart set on some yokohama k2's. but narrow minded as i was, the tire guy finally convinced me to get the pirelli's. after a few days with them WOW! let me tell you these tires kick ***. although i have yet to try them in snow
i had to buy new tires because mine were bad. i mean really bad. the backs were completely bald and one of the tires in front was warped. sure they were ok when it was dry and sometimes fun in a shower, but it was scary as hell in a down pour. i got to the point where i wouldn't drive if it was raining.
so it was time to head down to a local tire shop. after some recent research, riding in my brother's 325ix with yoko's to the local slopes
i decided i wanted a set for myself. after talking to the tire guy about the yokohama's and then telling him what car i drove, he asked me why i wanted those. after explaining about last winter in my brother's car he then showed me his wife's car, a mazda miata. not quite an rx7, but sporty enough. he went on to explain how the tires provided outstanding performance regardless the conditions.
after about half an hour i started to break. let me tell you it's not easy to get me to shell out $136 CDN a tire but since there was a 30 day money back guarantee, i did and they're worth every penny.
back to the story, as i'm getting ready to pull out of the tireshop it starts to rain. and i say to myself "****! these tires better be as good as the guy says!" it was almost like they wanted me to see how well the tires performed in the rain. i was in awe, my car has never driven so smooth. i drove out to the curviest (not in the dictionary) road i could think of at the time. there are simply no words in any language to describe the feeling. everytime i'm behind the wheel i've got an ear to ear smile
the last thing the guy at the shop said to me was, "there's only one problem my customers have with these tires. when spring rolls around, they don't want to take them off." i can see why
since i've been such a good boy this year, hopefully santa will leave me a set of rims under the tree for me. that way i'll have a reason to take the pirelli's off

I love my P6000's. They're excellent in dry weather and as good as I can expect in wet weather for a Summer season tire.
I don't think I'd like to drive with these things in snow and ice though, probably be kinda difficult.

This is easy. Toyo Proxes T1-S. The best street tire. You will be happy everyday hot or cold, dry or wet.

Their tread pattern sorta reminds me of Dunlop 9000's.
They do very well in the rain as well.
I really can't express how impressed I am with this tire. I've had Comp T/A's, MXX3's. P-Zeros's, and AVS Intermediates and the T-1S is BY FAR the best of this bunch.
I met a guy with a 10th AE edition last nite and he asked for a ride and took him thru a couple of corners and he was like - "damn, how do I get my car to corner like this?"
I'm getting to where I have mild understeer and the tire does not make much noise at limit - really good feedback. There are a couple of 25 and 35 mph on ramps that I am taking at about 6000rpm in 3rd no problem.
I drive like a banshee - this is the tire...

Toyo doesn't offer the Proxes T1-S in a 205/60-15.
They also don't offer that tire in anything bigger than a 55 sidewall height.
I just checked the www.toyo.com web site.

Yup, I've notice that alot of the performance tires don't carry sizes for my GXL 15 inch wheels. So I brought a use set of 10th AE rims cheap and the selection I can put on the car now increased exponentially

The best all-weather high-performance ones there seem to be the yok's or the dunlops.... (not just cuz they're teh best sellers
) I will do some more research on the Toyo's and Pirelli's... unless those are the best, I will probably go with the Yok's...
thanks for all the input

For me it was a tossup between the P6000 and the AVS Intermediates. If I have the car long enough for another set of tires, I'm going to get Intermediates just to compare. For now, I'm damn pleased with my Pirelli's. Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini don't use them as standard equipment because they suck.
