Tire place stripped my lug nut stud

So when i put on the rs-watanabes the tire place stripped the one of my four studs and im running on 3 lug nuts because the 4th one was half way on crooked. So i forced it off. Question is am i safe to run with 3 lug nuts that 'should' be tight?

The 3 lug wheel is the rear passenger tire and when i make a slow left turn i hear this scratching sound. I dont think the tire should be rubbing my car isn't that low, its 225/50/16. But i was thinking because theres only 3 lug nuts on there is some space and when i turn it it makes some type of scratching noise. Any opinions on what it could be?

yeah its an easy fix. if you have access to air tools the old stud is driven out . big hammer. pull the new stud thru ive done it by stacking some heavy washers over the stud and then spinning on a nut and using a impact gun you can saet the stud. 10 mins.

tighten the other 3 down good and youll be ok. happened to my 240 on more than one ocassion.

i would compplain about it to the shop. they should replace it since a stud costs like... $3 its a total of 10 minutes of work for someone with all the right tools and a lift. watch them repair it if possible.

It's safe to drive if you're driving it sanely, if not then no.

With this sort of thing make sure you get your money's worth. Even if someone you know is doing it for you instead of the guys that messed it up, both you and your friend can make some money off of it. True it will take a maximum of 20-30 minutes for someone that knows what they are doing, but most if not all shops will still charge for the whole hour.

So let's do the math, One hour of labor = approx. $70 (maybe more, maybe less, depends where you go), part cost without shop discount about $5. Meaning your body shop buddy can make an invoice for at least $75, when it only really cost you about $3. Take the invoice to the place that messed it up in the first place, get $75 split however you want with your friend. Voila! Instant money. That is of course if you don't mind extorting people for a mistake that an incompetent grease monkey made.

Uneven torque can warp the hub, rotor and even the wheel.

I agree that he should go back to the place that broke the car and demand that they fix it. Or reimburse him the amount of money that it would cost to have a competent shop do the work.

Impact wrenches are NEVER to be used to install wheels. Only a torque wrench.

If you have the right Torque Stick you can safely use an impact wrench.

Ive been in a million tire shops and not once have I seen a torque limiter in use on an impact gun.

This is why I only go to ONE tire shop here in tucson, and thats because its run by people who race and understand the importance of a torque wrench.

Those monkeys are RESPONSIBLE for fixing your car. Demand they do it right!

driving -1 lug nut should only be temporary. i would only suggest driving it to the shop and thats it. just hope they didnt strip the hub out. PITA if it is. youll have to JB weld the new stud in there or else it will spin around.

Yeah, I am aware of them.. Its a cheap alternative to a torque limiter we use on AIRCRAFT. Still havent seen them in use in any tire store in this area, and still dont rely on the flexing of metal to the precision of a torque wrench. Even if they are +/- 4%
