can a water temp gauge go here?

Just wondering if I could put the sender unit for a water temp gauge where the stock place you fill water at? You know that wire that is going in there right now? can I take that one out and put another on in? Also would anyone happen to know if its 3/4 pt or what? Thanks.

If the new sender has the same thread as the stock one then yes.

are you talking about the thermosensor on the back of the waterpump?

If so then the guys here say don't remove it since it tells the ECU the temp.

I have seen on some FC site a guy which used the stock fill point/cap thing and fabbed a plate with a sensor in it.

I thought it was pretty slick. It's after the Tstat but should still get a good reading.

I might do this once I get all my small leaks and stuff fixed. I have an Autometer gauge sitting in my car waiting.

Thanks for the replys guys. Are you guys saying to put the sending unit where the wire on top of the radiator is now or the two wires on bottom right side of the radiator? That would make more sence than the place next to the tstat. Thanks.

I misread your post before. This is the temp switch for the stock e-fan. If you still have the fan you should leave the switch alone. It's in the wrong place for a gauge sender anyway (should be under the thermostat). If the new gauge's sender is the wrong thread to replace the stock gauge sender under the oil filter, you should drill and tap a new hole on the rear of the water pump.

No, neither of those locations is suitable. The one on top is the radiator lever sensor, so you should definitely leave that alone.

No, the gauge must be calibrated for the sender connected to it. The chances of an aftermarket gauge having the correct calibration for the stock sender are slim to none.

Wait a minute I thought that was the oil sending unit under the oil filter? That would only make sence. Or are you saying that it is a sending unit for both oil temp and water temp? That would kinda make sence. I have an after market oil pressure and oil temp gauge that both have senders from one of those oil pedestles from fc3.org so I don't even use that sending unit any more, its just sitting there. I guess I could use that one, that would make sence. Now do you know what size the threading is in that sending unit? 1/4 pt? etc...

Thanks.

Slow down there man, you're thinking too fast. There are two different gauge senders located close to the oil filter, one for the oil pressure gauge and one for the coolant temp gauge.

I installed my Koyo recently. I also installed a water temp sensor. The last picture shows where it is, and I explain it in the thread. It works pretty well.
