timming question

timming question
OK. I went to check my timming. I noticed that I did not have a yellow mark on the pulley. So I hook up the gun to the trailing wire and I check for the red mark. Well no mark there either. I checked all over the place for those marks because I thought my timming was WAY off. I did notice two blue marks. Anyone know how I can check my timming or where the marks are supposed to go???? Thanks alot!

Yeah there's supposed to be a red and yellow, but by now theyre either worn off and turned black, or someone may have painted them both the same color just so theyd be visible at all again. THe one farther clockwise is leading, the one behind it(farther VVW) is trailing.
So just turn the crank clockwise until you line up with one of the marks, the first one you come to is leading. There are notches cut into the pully, in case you cannot see them painted.

So if I turn the pulley clockwise, which notch would come first? Leading?? I know theres two notches right next to each other. Check out my drawing of the pulley. I labeled each notch to see if someone can tell me which one is leading and trailing. Thanks!

looking at the pulley from the front of the car, as in your drawing, the notch on the right is the leading mark. The notch on the left is the trailing.
The "stick" coming from the front cover should line up on the first mark when looking at it with the timing light connected to the L1 plug wire.

Use a crayon on the flywheel to mark the spots.
This works great if the engine is warm cause the crayon will actually melt its gooo on the flywheel. Takes 2 seconds.
