Timing question (see pictures)

when the pointer is on the right hand crank mark and the CAS marks are lined up and inserted, should the pin on the CAS line up with the mag pickup? Isn't this when the plug should fire? 'Cause when the CAS is lined up and inserted, the spindle rotates. To get it to line up again you have to rotate the CAS to the stop.
Advice?

Pull the CAS out of the engine.

Align the marks on the bottom of the CAS.

Hold that positon and look into the top of the CAS.

The CAS has those two *teeth* on the top. One of those should be cutting the corner of the black coil.

In YOUR picture, the *tooth* is past the corner of the black coil and that is *off* or not quite righht.

So align the pulley mark with the pin on the front cover. .........align the marks on the bottom of the CAS and install the CAS. The rotating part of the CAS will rotate, but so what? Then just turn the body of the CAS til the *tooth* aligns with the corner of the black coil.

Then get your timing light out and with the engine HOT and under 1100rpm, set the timing.

Thsnks Hailers. I wasn't sure if you had to move it or not. The implication is that when you get all the marks lined up, then the timing is set, not 'close'. So if you you turn the CAS so the Pickup lines up with the rotating part, you should be pretty dead on instead of just close. I just thought that the amount of turning I had to do with the CAS was a little much, now I know why. Maybe now I can get everything adjusted right and get rid of the hard acceleration chattering (detonation?) because of the adjustments I made to the screw on top the intake manifold. I will return that screw to the center position and start adjusting from there. Is there another idle set screw somewhere on the Tbody or a measurement that is supposed to be preset before assembly (air fuel mixure, idle set)? Thanks again.

OH! Your on the wrong mark on the pulley. That's the trail mark you have the fixed pointer on. I didn't look at that jpg yesterday.

If your looking aft at the front of the engine, the pulley moves in a clockwise direction. So it's the red mark that is the one you want to align with the fixed pointer.

After you install the CAS, then you NEED to take a timing light to it, to set the timing dead on.

Okay, I'm confused. The FSM says that when installing the CAS, line up the pully so that the Leading top mark (yellow) is alligned with the indicator pin, line up the CAS marks and install. The red mark is the 20 ATDC marks (page C77). Then on page (FI15) it says that the leading plug fires on the yellow mark and trailing fires on the red mark. Rotating clockwise the first mark is the yellow 5 degree mark and the second is the red 20 degree mark.

Line it up with the first mark when rotating the engine clockwise, looking from the front.

Like said above .....ignore the colors and use the first mark that comes around. See attached jpg.

Part of me wonders if that is a aftermarket pulley .....or? Like, does it have more than two marks on it?
