Red face Timing question

I have an 87 Non turbo engine, wire harness and ECU computer in a 87 turbo chasey. I'm also using the turbo, tranny, fly wheel and clutch. I can set the L1 to the Yellow indicator but when I try to adjust the T1 side it doesn't align with the red indicator, it is closer to the yellow and idles better at that point. I don't understand what the prob;em is and if this will cause any damage? I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me? Gary

All you really need to do is match up L1 with the first mark on the pully. If your having trouble doing this, make sure that you set the initial set jumper and make sure that your idle is at spec.

Well I can match the L1 with the yellow mark no problem, I was just concerned about not being able to align the marks for the Tailing side (red indicator)? When I had this engine in my last car (Non turbo) I could align both marks. I just don't want to ruin anything the engine only has 20,000 on it. Gary

It's fine. The stock timing is conservative. You can't adjust the two independently anyway. Adjust the leading and forget it.
