Timing issue

Question is this how you time a rx7. You have to take out the crank angle sensor and then align the dot with the marking at the end of the shaft, then install it back in. I'm thinking that isn't it. There should be more to it. If you have found a easy way to set the timing please let me know. I tryed using a timing light but i didn't have much fun with that.

quoted from FSM:

1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature
2. Turn off all unnecessary electrical loads.
3. Connect a tachometer and check the idle speed.
4. Ground the test connector (Green: 1-pin) to the body with a jumper wire.
5. Connect a timing light to the high-tension lead of the front leading-side.
6. Check the mark on the pulley is aligned with the indicator pin.
7. Connect the timing light to the high-tension lead of the front trailing-side, and check the timing.

8.If necessary, turn the crank angle sensor to adjust.

Hope that helps.

That's for S5's only. You don't use the initial set coupler when checking an S4's timing.

there should be two indentions on the pulley closest to the engine. Line up the first mark with the "pin" sticking out of the front cover.

Take CAS out. Align the dot/marking. BEFORE reinstalling cas, mark one of the Smaller gear teeth to a Fixed location. (sharpie works well)
You do this because when reinstalling cas, it will turn a little; which makes the marks you just aligned NOT aligned anymore.

After you have installed it, turn the body of the CAS until the small gear tooth that you marked previously is realigned with the fixed position. You now are certain that the Dot/Mark at the end of the CAS are aligned.
