Timing and Idle

My car was popping quite a bit and idling wierd (sometimes 700, sometimes 1400) I checked the timing today and it was advanced almost all the way (previous owner) so I retarded it a bit till the popping almost stopped and was running really nice(1100rmps~). Then 5 hours later I started it up cold and the warm up idle jumped from 1500ish to 2100ish and my idle is up around 1400 again. I may have accidentally moved the idle speed screw? on the top of the IM and I tightened up the throttle cable cause there was a lot of play in the line, wats going on?

The throttle cable needs a little bit of slack. Sounds like you've tightened it too much, pulling the throttle open and raising the idle speed.

you can't check or adjust the timing unless your idle is at or close to 750rpm... if it is any higher then the marks are not surposed to line up so you can't adjust it...
