timing da wankel

leading timing should be 5* at top dead center. everyone keeps telling me i have to set the timing light/gun to 0* (zero) degrees advance on the gun. if so, why? i dont get it. i thought you just set the gun to whatever the timing should be, turn the distributor/crank angle sensor and voula.

if its an n/a just turn it till it sounds good. im running like 30* advance. with the gun on zero set it to the stock timing marks, they are marked at the proper advance for stock timing

I usually just restab with the cover off, rotate it until it lines up correctly, and leave it at that.

my timing gun doesnt get out much...

The timing offset **** on the gun is so that you can add in timing, and still use a stock timing mark. Just leave the gun on zero, and make sure the timing marks line up.

will someone just eplain to me please the whole process of timing an s4, n/a rx7! i had to take the cas out becuase the hold down stud broke, so i had to drill it out and tap it. i lined the leading mark up to top dead center (where the mark on the pulley is lined up with the timing indicator on the front cover) then i lined up the dot on the cas gear with the line on the cas body, put it in... now what is next? i have to start all over with the timing, wich means i have to sit in the car and turn it over and someone has to move the cas untill it start and keep moving it till it sounds decent, then i need to get the timing light out... what do i need to set the timing light to, to time it?

ALL I NEED TO KNOW IS WHAT TO SET THE TIMING LIGHT TO, TO TIME THE LEADING MARK. DO I PUT THE TIMING LIGHT ON ZERO OR FIVE DEGREES?????!!! IS THAT SO HARD TO ASK???? sorry but im getting aggrivated at people telling me "well it could be this and that" all i need to know is what to set the gun to.... thanks -matt

you get the stupid pick up attach it to front rotor leading. and set your marks, it says in the book. leave the gun on zero. the **** is only if you want to advance it. if you turn the **** to lets say 20 dagrees and then if you set your timming marks it will be at 20 dagrees. so just leave the **** at zero and set your timming mark and if you took out the cas here is a link to if you have taken it out.
