Time for a rebuild ?

Well I parked my car in my driveway Friday before going on a family trip everything worked fine no signs or anything.

Tried to start it Tuesday afternoon and it just cranks over very fast.

I do the poor mans compression test with taking the plug out on the rear rotor and find out there isn't even "pssts" like on the front one.

It won't even start and I'm guessing I need a rebuild ?

Any insight ?

Should I rebuild the na (88 vert) or should I do a swap ?

Around how much in total for parts for the swap would I be looking at ? Estimate

I got a qoute for around 2000 for rebuild and removal/installation for the na is that about right ?

If it ran fine before I'd try some ATF in the rear rotor housing. It could be carboned up, and you've got stuck seals. It's worth a shot, otherwise rebuild or source a used engine. Running S4 shortblocks can be found for a few hundred $.

Yes... A bit of oil or automatic transmission fluid, as stated by Molotovman. Clean your plugs, too.

How many miles are on the engine? How often do you rev your engine to redline?

add oil to build compression and do the deflooding procedures. once running do a decarb and pray that the original 3 piece seals can handle it, and keep on for a few thousand more miles.

256K is plenty to ask of a rotary
Maybe you could get it running again, but I'd say she's lived a good life.

....So it can fail at a less convenient place? What more can you ask, that it die as you coast past the best rotary shop in town? Don't even waste your time, because even if you get it running you'll be looking over your shoulder every one of those couple thousand miles.

256,000 miles? or 256,000km? either way it's getting up there, but thought I'd ask for clarification.

given said location is canada I would guess 256,000kilometers. Even still 160,000miles is a decent life out of a rotary.

Nope the oil trick didn't work but it's not cranking over really fast anymore it sounds stock.

Oh well. Can someone tell me the usual price range for a decent swap to a turbo or just a rebuild so I can compare my prices.

Before giving up all hope(unless a compression test told you to) get a friend with a truck to help pull start it.
