Question Time for new exhaust-Hooker Aero Chambers?

OK so my bone stock low mileage '86 GXL is starting to show some signs of wear. Of course its the exhaust system which is leaking a bit and then to add insult to injury, my passenger exhaust tip just came off(bad repair job on a bent tip many years ago). I've got a lead on some stock replacement exhaust parts but if that falls through then I'm going aftermarket. The hitch is that I like it QUIET!!! Which is why I'm working my way from the back end first and looking at the Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. I haven't checked dimensions yet but these seem to have the best flow numbers and are supposed to be really quiet. Anybody ever try these on a 7?

Unhappy

Hmmmm, maybe I stumbled on a new idea with this Hooker muffler thing. Either its really dumb or just unknown. I did search, and really don't want to fly blind, but I'll check it out. Any comments? Suggestions?

never heard of anyone mentioning hooker mufflers before, the rotary would probably blow them out, but who knows, give it a try! i would reccomend the full racingbeat setup.

Thanks! They're supposed to be built pretty strong and they're at the end of the exhaust system so it shouldn't be too brutal. I'll post results when I try it. ZSW

There are many 'robust' mufflers that are run on piston engines that get nuked by the exhaust of a rotary, just an FYI.

just make sure they don't use fiber glass type packing and you should be ok.

Thanks for the info. Hooker(AKA Holley) has a tech support URL that I'll hit for more info. I'll try to find precise numbers for 13b exhaust heat specs and pass them on to the Hooker techs to see what they say. The aero-chambers have no fiberglass in 'em, they use stainless steel internals with some aluminum. Overall they have an interesting design/concept. We'll soon see!

Excellent. How does the Maximum Flow sound? And, how does it fit? The Hooker Aero Chambers are much shorter than the stock mufflers but they are pretty big, 10 1/4 inches on the wide part of the "oval", which means they might hang down a bit.

My setup is custom. I have a downpipe and a 3" free flow in and out big muffler using it as a presilencer (almost identical like the RB 3" presilencer) then goes to the 3" in and out free flow S shaped internally hooker maximun flow muffler. I have a 4" tip that I welded on the hooker muffler. It sounds great and when I am crusing around 3-4k I can barely hear the exhaust even though its single, exiting the passenger side on a right hand drive FC. It sounds great when I step on it with a deep and not raspy sound. The maximun flow muffler I think is ceramic packed and has a very good and stong construction. The muffler itself is a little heavy. I think I got it for $50 if I remember correct. The muffler in the middle used as presilencer makes all the difference. Why do you thing the RB full exhaust is so quiet? The main reason is because of the presilencer they are using.
