88 turbo 2 wont run previously overhauled need info. starts when gas is poured down the turbo tube. any one know how important it is to have the wires connected right on what looks to be a throttle sensor located on the side of the upper intake.

Sounds more like the injectors are not working. Try pulling the plugs and spinning the engine for about 30seconds and see if your getting a fuel mist. Not the answer to your question, but a reply.

OK, there are 3 wires coming out of the TPS. They go to a plug. The mating plug should only be able to be plugged in one way. However, if the wires were cut (Why else would you be asking the question?), the 3 wires on the TPS are Voltage, ground, and sense. If you meter any pair of these wires, here is what you should get. If the reading is 5Kohm, you are across voltage and ground. If the reading is somewhere near 1Kohm, you are across sense and ground. If the reading is somewhere near 4Kohm, you are across sense and voltage. From these combinations, you should be able to deduce what wire is what. If any reading is way off (short, open), it doesn't matter, the TPS is bad anyway. Leave it unplugged. Assuming good readings, Voltage should connect to the brown/white stripe wire. Sense should connect to the Green/red stripe wire. Ground should connect to the brown/black stripe wire. Hope this helps.

PS. The engine will start and run with the TPS disconnected, so if you suspect it, unplug it. If the engine still won't start, it's not the TPS! :o
