Tune up info wanted
Looking to give my 87 GXL N/A (175,000 miles) a much needed tune-up. Wanted to know if there are any "particular" things that need to be done along with the most obvious one being plugs.
I have had this car for 3 years now and haven't given it a "tune-up" yet...(other things were breaking and needing more attention)...everything seems to be running quite well...just loosing low end power.
Any tips???
Thanks!

Air filter, fuel filter, spark plug wires, adjust timing, throttle position sensor, idle set screw, make sure your sixports are opening properly, change your tranny and differential fluids.

i second SuperchargedRex.
one more thing, check ur heater hose right below ur oil filter, which runs to the fire wall. its COMMONLY overlooked. and always gets doused w/ oil from oil changes, and oil ruins the hose...mine burst on me last month and my car has 102k miles. if its bloated, or really squishy, you should replace it ASAP.
check out mazdatrix.com for the part. its $24.10, and will take about 30-40 min to put on. peice of mind in a hose.

yup, that hose was the first thing that broke when i first got my 88 GTU. I didnt know a damn thing about the car except it was frickin awesome...i learned quick tho.
It's not too tough to replace, you can also just drop by your friendly mazda dealer to pick a hose up(it was only $20 there for me).
have fun

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
All good suggestions but, don't forget to completely bleed out the brake and clutch lines with new fluid, as well as flush and fill the engine/rad with new coolant.
Both should be done every 24 months or 30000 miles.
