Red face TII Vert swapping website now up

No, I don't mean trading your convertible for a TII.

This is a very basic site, mostly previously posted stuff, but give it a look if you're thinking about doing a TII swap into a convertible.

My experience with my 88 vert and 88 AE donor (sorry, it needed a title anyway) went very well, and I was able to get it done in a week of "vacation". The AE even runs great with my 166,000 mile NA engine and drivetrain (I couldn't resist trying it, and I had two days of vacation time left.)

The convertible is a different car altogether with the TII. Much peppier. I have to say though that the AE looks like it's been neutered with the NA hood on it.

The webpage is at www.kcnet.com/~sriley

The conversion is really damn easy if you have all the parts, it can be done in a very short time period. Congrats on a turbo vert, must be a change for that heavy thing to actually have some power behind it!

actually less than 50lbs difference between a 10thAE and a 88 Vert.

Ahh yes, but there must be a considerable difference from driving a NA vert and going to a Turbo vert, though it would be the same as the AE basically, I can only imagine how much different it would feel doing it in the vert.

thanks for the site. Always good to have this handy when doing the swap.

Just hope the S5 ECU doesn't freek not having ABS on the S5 vert

And I hope BBS makes larger rims that works with the stock Mazda BBS caps.

Someday maybe I'll find out about the S5 ECU's, but so far I've just traded between the s4's.

I did replace the 15 inch BBS rims with the 16 inch AE's rims this weekend, and will hang onto the BBS's for my Blizzaks. I think it's time for new struts and springs in the back though, because the rears are almost bald on the inside edges. Carrying around a few too many sandbags to get through the ice the last few (OK, eleven) winters.

Post the electrical please. That is the only thing I need. I'm gonna keep the Vert dash console. My TII console has 2783 miles on it and is on the wall. I'm not gonna put miles on that. I have been told that I need to pull the dash. I will if I have to, but I don't have time to figure it out right now.. so let me know what is up with the wiring.

Thanks,
Don.

Yeah, I miss those blades. I'm updating the website www.kcnet.com/~sriley tonight with the wiring info for the alternator, and I've received a couple of e-mails asking about the rest of the dash wiring I changed. I'll try and get as much of that written down as I can, and post the pictures I've been sent so far of other TII convertibles.

I replaced my TII instrument cluster last night since I blew the boost gauge before I fugured out the wiring problems. While I was at it, I put on some of the silver/white faced gauges from s/r sports (the ones on e-bay). They look really good, and it's nice to see that crappy stock boost gauge moving around again.

thanks for the ABS computer tip. I had wondered about that.

BTW - right now I'm thinking of using a supercharger with NA drivetrain & motor. I like how the GTU-S guys describe the application of power. I'm hearing the NA drivetrain can take this much HP so long as you don't add an extremely stiff clutch nor "drag race" very much.

It would be nice NOT to add the TII drivetrain's weight to the convertible but still make 250hp @ 8PSI/10PSI (intake/supercharger) in conjunction with an intercooler.

Of course some strengthening of engine & drivetrain components will be necessary - along with removing weight (but not streetability).
