TII swap
TII swap
I'm in the middle of an s5 turbo swap into an N/A s5. I've just read that I can just use my NA harness and find a Turbo ECU. Is that correct? Sorry for my ignorance but I'm not as familar with my RX-7 as I'd like, but what's an AFM? What else do I need over and above the computer? Do I need an aftermarket boost gage and what one would anyone recomend? I'm starting to get nervous now that the new engine is on the way and it's getting close to do or die time. The engine is a j-spec, does that make any difference? I've tried going through old posts on this subject but they tend to get convoluted and make my brain hurt.
If anyone would care to let me know what else I need to finish this swap other then engine and computer which I have and my N/A harness and a sheilded wire for the knock sensor I'd be ever so grateful.

Rotary Resurrection for more information (click on TECH link at the top). On the main page there is also a T2 Conversion link too.
Welcome and good luck.
The FAQ at the top of the 2nd gen will answer or lead to the answers to this.
I will still help though unlike some jackasses.(not you whiteseven)
The AFM is the Air Fuel Meter. It's the boxey thing connected to the airbox. There should be a big plug on the side if it. about this big -> (===============)
You will also need the boost sensor for a turbo II. I do not know the model number for Series 5's but you can search for it on the site.
The boost sensor is a small rectangular box a little bigger than a zippo style lighter. It will have a vacuum/pressure hose connected to it and an electrical plug. It's on the front part of the passenger strut tower.
You will then need a Series 5 turbo ECU. I've heard that the interior harness will just connect right to it.
I'm not exactly sure(most likely right though) but I think you need the turbo engine harness.
If you go with a Turbo transmission then you will need the turbo clutch slave cylinder and turbo flywheel(flywheels usually on the Jspec along w/ a clutch)

my j-spec is complete. Just pulled from a car and shipped to me. It has the complete trannie and everything too. So does that mean that all I need is the ecu? I sure hope so. My engine is a long block so everything is still attatched to it...I'm looking at the link for http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ and I'm confused what out of that list is likely to still be attatched to my long block. It has a wiring harness attatched but it's cut from the donor car. If this helps anyone. I'm one of these annoying people who has to understand totally before they can let go.
I know what you mean. I read and reread everything on the swap before I started to buy parts.
You will need the AFM,ECU,Wiring harness, and Boost sensor. None of these are on the Jspecs. If your luck the AFM is on but I highly doubt it.
Also be prepared in case some parts are missing. My Jspec was missing the BOV so I have to buy one.
