TII RX7 Question (Turbo)

The car that I'm looking at, well, the add anyway, says that the turbo's gone bad, but that he has a replacement turbo for it. I was curious, if there's anyway to temporarily route the tubes and stuff around all the turbo stuff, to drive the thing home if I decide to buy it. Also, how difficult is it to swap a replacement turbo in?

Changing the turbo while the motor is in the car is a PITA, but its doable if you have the patience.

you could take a piece of hose, route it from the AFM to the t-body, but it would be a long assed piece of hose and the car is going to run like ***.. dog *** that is..

If the turbo is just not boosting... but the car runs, you shold be able to get it home without monkeying with it.... just don't plan on winning any speed records

Actually you'd only have to run hose from the AFM to the intercooler; not too hard at all. But I can't see why you'd do this, as it won't make any difference to the turbo. It'll still be there and it'll still be spinning, so what ever's wrong with it will still be a factor.

If it's just got noisy bearings and isn't boosting well and/or is burning a bit of oil then you can drive it fine. But if the oil seals are blown and oil smoke is pouring out the exhaust, the car should not be driven. You need to find out exactly what a "bad turbo" is first.
