Question TII Reliability?

I was just wondering how a reliable a stock TII is? I was thinking about picking one up in about six months to a year. If I do I want to keep it original as possible. That way I can work on my 88 NA. I'm guessing that they are more reliable than a stock FD? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks people.

What is the best year TII to get. I know the 89's and up have more power.....just curious as to what all of you think.....feel free to share any experiences that would help me make up my mind. Mind you, I'm keeping it stock.

well...........

as far as reliable, check this out....

i bought my 88 TII with 84,000 orginal miles on it, bone stock. since then i have modded it as so:

bonez intake
full racing exhaust
aluminum f/w (12lbs)
fcd
safc
bov
performance fuel pump
jacobs ign.
c/f II clutch

all this on stock motor and turbo and now she has 108,000 miles and runs perfect. this car has never left me stranded or broke down on me. i boost up to 12 psi at times too. gotta drive em hard every now and then.

i have also put mobile 1 full synthetic oil and i run premix.

at least put an exhaust on it though if you dont want to mod it rotorhead.

as for what yr is the best i would think each series has it good points and bad points

88's have less weight and mechanical omp. and lower compression

89's have better turbo and higher compression and slightly better looks

there is alot more to the 2 series but i cant list them all.....

I'm just wondering how much I'll pay. I'm not going to start looking for another 6 months or so. I'll probably go w/an 88.

Rotorhead9651,

Something like this:

87-88 TIIs go for $4000+
89-92 TIIs go for $5500+

Of course:
prestine - add $1000
emaculent - add $1500
new/rebuilt engine - add $1500
high miles engine - subtract accordingly
average/poor condition - subtract accordingly
minor mods - add or subtract depending
major mods - add $$$$$$

Best advice is buy it for dirt cheap with a blown/high miles motor and rebuild yourself OR pay a premium for a new/rebuilt engine & decent shape car.

Jaime...I said that I want to keep it bone stock....not throw an exhaust on it. That's why I'm going to keep my 88 SE(NA all the way), and mod the hell out of it. So, about $5k for a mechanically sound TII....not as bad as I thought.....

VAUGHNC!!!!!!!!! you keep spelling immaculate and pristine wrong!!! they are with an "I" LOL

Immaculate: 1. Impeccably clean; spotless. See synonyms at clean. 2. Free from stain or blemish; pure. 3. Free from fault or error: an immaculate record. 4. Having no markings.

Pristine: 1a. Remaining in a pure state; uncorrupted by civilization. b. Remaining free from dirt or decay; clean: pristine mountain snow. 2. Of, relating to, or typical of the earliest time or condition; primitive or original.
