TII rebuild

I found a 87 TII that has a bad water seal or something but other then that the body and everthing is in perfect condtion, and its only $900........... So then I was wondering how hard it is to rebuild a TII engine I mean I have never took apart a rotary engine or anything.............. And like how much does it cost roughly also?

Replacing all the wear parts/gaskets is usually around $2400.

That is the cost to replace all wear parts with OEM parts, excluding side irons, which can be machined.

most of the time $2400 isnt needed. Usually just seals and gaskets, and lapping the irons. A full rebuild kit from Atkins or Racing Beat is $900-$1200, machining work maybe another $50-$100 at a local shop. Rebuilding isnt too bad, just buy a Atkins rebuild video, it will walk you through the process step by step.

www.atkinsrotary.com You can do it for not much over 1000 if you do it yourself. It'll be 1000 or so for a full rebuild kit. If you need to replace hoses, mounts, etc it goes up from there. If you need new housings, then it starts adding up, sicne they're 400 each. The irons cost around 300 to be lapped, as well.
Now you can get a bare-bones get-it-back-on-the-road rebuild for about 1000 at www.rotaryresurrection.com but thats assuming good housings and re-using some of the side/corner seals that are in good shape.
As for the rebuild itself, it is relatively easy and straight forward. You can order rebuild videos from atkins or www.rotaryaviation.com.

Not needed by whos standards? It is always needed by mine. And use OEM seals only safe the headache of a premature rebuild.

Not needed for people who dont have $2400 to spend on a rebuild when in most cases $1000-$1500 will do the job just fine...

My N/A has the same issue, blown water gasket or something, the local "rotory guy" told me about $1400 would be the average for my area. If only I had money lol.

why do you have to rebuild the whole engine if you only have a bad water gasket. I mean in a normal piston engine you dont have to you just replace the damn gasket

Something isn't right here...These numbers seem overblown...

A complete gasket kit from my local Mazda dealer is $200. Adding in all the other hard seals (corner, side, oil rings, etc.) and springs made that bill about $750-$800 Canadian. A set of Atkins seals for $400 and there's a complete rebuild for less then $1500 Canadian. OEM apex seals aren't much more expensive then Atkins so I don't know where the other $1000 US comes from unless that's assembly labor.

Again... thats how YOU like to do it, not everyone is living on a huge budget and cannot afford a full rebuild with all new hard parts/ Congrats on doing it the "correct" way, but not everyone can. Nothing wrong with reusing hard parts as long as the wear is minimal

The less you spend, the less gets replaced. How hard is that to understand?
Rotor housings, oil control ring carriers, bearings etc, and the rest of the OEM parts add up very quickly.

I'm not going to sit down, copy links etc to show you guys up, I don't give a damn. I'm only on here replying to PMs about business.

Oh and our base price for a performance engine has risen to $4000...

I guess its magic that there are customers lined up?

Because in order to change the coolant seal, you need to crack the keg open. After its cracked open, everything is "loose" and needs to be reseated - at the least - problem is most of the time when the coolant seal is gone, the motor has (presumabley) overheated. And if not, it becomes a "while Im at it" scenario.

I will bet $50 that the engine has more than 75,000kms on the internal parts. Would you want to take all the time and energy required to change the seal......and then re-assemble it with old, used engine seals?

Main bearings are about $30 a piece, and the rotor bearings are about the same. But rarely do they need to be replaced unless the engine was run low on oil or has serious mileage. In fact used bearings are often preferable in almost all scenarios to avoid the 5,000 mile break in.

Housings...well if you need housings the price goes up quick.

Its quite easy to understand... But how much of that is replacing things that dont need replacement PURELY for the sake of saying "I got new blah blah blah.."

there are? And still no dyno numbers from your camp of buddies? Christ, you sound like a broken record..
