TII question

so my friend is thinking about selling his TII and i needed some input on it. its a 1987 TII with ok interior and the body is strait the only cons are the paint is bad and it needs new paint the car always starts up and when i see it i will be doing a compression check. the thing is hes askin 3500.

my question is, is it a good buy or not. i mean im helpin a friend out for one so im not to worried about it being a little overpriced and im pretty sure he wont cheat me so what do you guys think?

Its way over priced, offer him 2500 and thats still a little much for a stock 87 TII.

Has he replaced anything recently?
If the comp checks out then $3500 is fair. Just know these cars can become money pits. How many miles?

Keep in mind that you're probably going to sink another GRAND into the car to fix all the "little things".
There are numerous How-To-Buy guides out there.
Here's mine: http://fc3spro.com/TECH/h2b.html

A DECENT paint job is still going to cost you $1000 - I'm not talking cheapie Maaco crap either.

Hit http://www.kbb.com/ and punch in all the details.
I bet the figure is going to be more like $2,000.

So, $1,000 for miscellaneous and $1,000 for paint, and you're going to end up paying $5,000 for the car...
If you're happy with that figure, then go for it.
I personally wouldn't pay over $2k myself for a car like that.

Buy it as cheap as possible cause you will sink money into it.

I find that really odd...
You're so much more closer to Japan, and you guys get to import FC's in full trim over there!
I see listings for FC's in Yahoo Japan Auction for about the same prices - JPN Y200,000 or so for a good shape one...with mods!

Mind you, the cars are getting 20 years old and older.
I think fuel prices are driving a lot of people away, since they have doubled over the past 10 years.
Very hard to find people who work on these things, so they get "thrown away" pretty regularly, especially in SMOG emissions areas like California.
We find all the good deals in Cali, cause people can't make them pass emissions.
