TII Oil Pressure

I was reading arownd about oil pressure been too high for a Turbo and I am not sure if this is causing my engine smoke when I step on the gas. Can someone tell me if an oil pressure over 100psi is causing my engine to smoke. This is a fresh re built turbo S5 engine, street ported, and still braking in.

Thanks
Faquir

I guess I have to keep looking. Maybee troubleshoot the turbo to see if this high oil pressure is causing the turbo to have a leak by. Man that will suck cause thats asking for a turbo re-built.

100+ psi?

Is this on the stock gauge or a real mechanical one?

If you are really seeing 100+ psi, that is to high for stock, but not neccesarily a bad thing.

Smoke coming from the exhaust when you step on the gas could be from many things. What color is the smoke? Does it only smoke in boost? Have you pulled your intercooler pipes to see if there is oil in them?

Do this and get back to us. It will help diagnose the problem.

P.S. go start your car and let it warm up. Then in neutral, raise the RPM's to 4000 for 15 seconds. Does smoke start to pour out of the tail pipes?

Great Bosstmatic. I drove the car and it looks like I get black smoke under boost. I have a mechanical oil pressure gage. But I did not get a chance to check for smoke under 4000rpm for 15 sec.

Ok I did the 15 sec 4000rpm test. There was a small amount of blue smoke during idle warm up in witch I think is runnin ritch because is smells like fuel. Also, wen I ran the 4000rpm test same amount of smoke and same smell. I have done this test on other cars and I have seen cars that disapear in their own smoke. So on my opinion I dont think I have a bad o-ring. Right now Iam only running with a down pipe no mufflers. Can this smoke go away if I run a full exhaust system? I also pulled the intercooler pipes to see if there was oil and nothing. Maybee is the metering pump? Hoe can I check that?

Some of the smoke will probably go away after you install the exhaust. Its probably runnin rich cuz its not fully broken in yet. And some key words:
S5 turbo rx-7...what do you expect

If you are talking about the seals on the rotor, then this is wrong. These seals don't see oil pressure.

100-110 PSI is what Racing Beat recommends on heavily boosted motors. as per their Tech book.

I just dont understand why the oil pressure is over 100psi if I did not do any mods to the oil system. Everything is stock exept for the thermal pellet that I put from Atkins.

What oil weight and what oil temp at the PSI?

Is this with the stock oil pump and pressure regulator?

Try a different oil pressure guage.

Who rebuilt the motor?

PSI is also resistance. Something might be blocking the oil flow causing the pressure to build.

10W40 engine normal operating temp. Do not know exacly a number.

I did and same numbers.

Who rebuilt the motor?
I did.

Ware can a block can develop?

Something might be blocking the oil flow causing the pressure to build.
Then maybee if I put a flow gage it might tell me how the flow is doing. Right.Only if I could find the GPM numbers.

To affect the gauge, besides failed oil pressure regulators, anything after your pressure gauge in the flow diagram could have an issue.

Blockage could be a clogged filter not bypassing.
I'd start with a simple oil and filter change. Use a 30wt oil and a cheap filter. Cheap filters tend to flow well.
The regulators should dump oil PSI. Start by pulling. inspecting, or testing them.
Blockage can occur at ANY point that oil flows. You assembled it. I hope that you didn't overdose on sealants and that everything lined up well.

Did you perform any oil mods? thermopellet installed correctly? aftermarket regulator or shims? new oil pump? new oil cooler lines? oil cooler cleaning? oil jet mod?
Did you check all engine clearances? Or did you just slap the motor together with a kit like others?
What is your definition of "rebuild"?

No oil mods were done only that I installed the Atkins pellet in wich I doubled check and is installed correctly. No aftermarket regulator or shims were installed. No new oil pump. Stock oil cooler lines were cleaned. Now the oil cooler I did not cleaned something I will do before changing the oil again. No oil jet mods. All engine clearances were checked before closing the engine.

My definition of a rebuilt is to dismantle and reassemble using new parts.
