TII impressions
Well I just picked up my 87 TII yesterday. I posted about it in this thread.
When i started it the first time, back at my house, the tachometer wasnt working. And it was giving me a beep every couple of secconds (not the shift beep). I drove about 5 miles like this and then restarted the car. The tach worked again after that.
It had flooded a couple of times. But thats no problem as I can still easily start the car (custom fuel cut switch). So this doesnt bother me at all.
There is a noise when I turn the wheel to the right or left (to lock, or very close to lock). But I think its just the power steering pump?
The only other problem is the passanger window motor seems to be slowly going out.
Now that i got the bad stuff out of the way (was that really bad?) let me get to the plusses.
The car is definitely strong. It pulls nicely to redline and the autometer boost gauge read 12psi in third gear to the end. The tranny shift smooth (it was just rebuilt) and pretty precise. Third was hard for me to find the first drive or two, but i have it smooth now.
I havent tested the handling too much. I dont want to wreck my car pulling some mario andretti on the street.
But from what I can tell it handles very well. Its fairly flat. Im going to put some front & rear sways on it.
One thing I have really noticed is the looks people give me. I was sitting at a light, showing my friend the car. And when the light turned green both people in the lanes beside me (3 lane) peeled out and took off. I just went slowly and laughed in my head knowing that i coult smoke them.
About five mintues later a van pulled up beside us and matched my speed (40 in a 45). He was staring at me and not the road (very scary). After what felt like a minute I just waved and slowed down some more.
When we got to our destination (burger king) the drive trough girl complimented me with:
"Wow, awosome car...is that a 2004?"
I laughed and told her it was an 87 rx7, she said
"wow looks like a 2004"
I I smiled confusingly
Im not sure that I like all this attention. But some of it I dont mind.
Sorry for the long post. I can sum it up as I love this car
