TII Housings -- or stay with the N/a ones?

Well - the time is getting nearer and nearer each day. I'm almost there for the rebuild of my GXL. I just have one draw back - If one of my housings / rotors are screwed from whatever happened (will not know until I can find the time to get the engine out of the car and torn apart), what should I get?

TII Housings (people say it's better......)

or keep the n/a housings?

Now, if I go TII housings -- would I need to get TII rotors, or can the rotors follow through at a clean state with the TII housings? Also, would this make any differance with the seals / side seals / springs if I go TII housings?

How much do they cost, depending where I buy them?

i have TII rotor housings.. you don't need the TII rotors. and i don't think you will need the seals/springs either.
am i right?

also you will be able to port the exhausts much easier with the turbo housings.

If you are staying with stock ports just get the n/a housings, cheaper and easier to get.

No, this car will be ported.

If I go with TII housings -- i'll be porting out the exhaust ports as well as the intake (my original plan anyway).

I just needed to know how much would TII housings cost -- anything I need to change, etc.

If your going to port them anyway, don't bother with the extra expence.
I have a related question though. If the housings are in spec when I do the rebuild, should I replace them anyway. This guy that runns a rotary shop said it is better. He wasn't trying to upsell me becuase I told him I was going to do it. He was just offering advise. Is it sound?

i would re-use them if i were you... if they are in spec, then why buy new ones?

Just port the NA housings and go on. Turbo housings are in no way superior, or even different than, NA housings, other than 2 things:

--turbo housings have coolant passages at the LIM, NA's do not.
--turbo housings have a smooth exhaust sleeve, NA's have the diffuser. This can be ground out, cut out with a torch (my personal method, 2 minutes per housing) or the entire sleeve can be swapped with a turbo sleeve (total PIA).

I'd bet a twenty dollar bill that you WILL need a rotor and rotorhousing for your GXL's rebuild. Plan on finding them. My offer to help you rebuild it still stands, or you can play around with it yourself, but what you'll find inside will remain the same.
