Ticking noise from below dash

This morning I was driving to work, a steady ticking noise started coming from behind and under the steering wheel. It's about 1 tick per second and it sounds like a ticking clock or a blinker. It stops when I turn off the key, but returns when I switch to ON and the engine not running.

I didn't have time to check it out more closely than that, but I know its not the turn signal or emergency flasher. Any ideas?

Is the wiper switch turned on?
No really, is it a constant and consistantly timed ticking? or just ticks about once per second but irregularly? If it's the latter, check you don't have some wires burning up in there. If it is regular, you'll just have to pinpoint it yourself to find out what's going on.

wiper trick

my wipers sometimes stop working i found that if I lightly play with the key in the ignition they will start to work. just a tiny bit of a turn, nothing so that it tries to crank the engine again or anything, just a fiddle.

I love simple problems... the wiring connector came off the wiper motor. And yes it only ticked with the wiper switch turned on. I think the noise came out of the switch itself. But now its fixed
