hehe a bomb...your the bomb Icemark

Probably injectors they "tick" on and off.

A fun thing you can do is either use a Stethoscope or old school style long wrench or piece of dowelling etc to use as a Stethoscope and use it to listen where all the different ticks clicks and pops are coming from by holding it against different parts while holding other end to your ear.

back in the day we would use this to listen to taplets and rods and detonation etc on boingers for problems.

Just did this with a piece of doweling from my birds cage to diagnose a rattling sound on my rex...found the air pump is getting old and noisy (no biggy will loose it if it gets worse)

of course if you try this be careful of moving parts...I assume no responsibility for lost fingers

My guess is a relay dying somewhere, it should be pretty easy to track down, though. turn car on, follow the noise

There is an unfortunate minority of rx7 owners for whom ticking is a daily reality. Mine has done it since the rebuild. Its always there with the engine running. It hasn't gotten better or worse. Even with a stethescope, it sounds like its coming from the whole engine.

Are all your spark plug wires on the actual plugs? Might be arching somewhere causing the ticking sound. It would increase with rpms as well.

You might actually be on to something here... is it possible that the CAS internal gear is worn enough that it's causing an arc every time it passes by the conductors? Perhaps this is causing your tick

There is an actuator on the passenger side of the engine. I believe it opens and closes a port (but I am not sure).

For years I had a ticking sound from the engine that I could not find. Turned out that the small koter pin and shackle that held the shaft to the actuator was vibrating and making a loud ticking noise.

After I found that, I stopped worring about it.

Exhaust leaks can often sound like "valves ticking", which is probably the sound you are describing. It only takes a tiny leak to cause a big annoying tick...
